New CS:R specs on astromech.net
For those on the R2 BC (http://www.astromech.net), please read this carefully:
http://astromech.net/forums/showthread.php?t=18316
This describes the new CS:R (old R2.0) specs and how it relates to the specs already in place, now called CS:Legacy. There is a discussion in another topic about how the parts suppliers and the council are going to handle all this to avoid confusion, but it looks like the R2 BC is moving forward with something that's been in the works for over a year. Chris, Cole, and Darren have been working very hard with measurements from two screen used droids and a box of parts they saw during a visit to the Archives. Some of the legacy parts will not fit the new CS:R (R2.0) frame and skins, thus the link to the post at top. There will be a transition period while everything gets sorted out, so please be patient. Legacy parts will never go away, but the council needs to come up with a plan to make Legacy and CS:R parts runs work without frustrating everyone.
All I can say is now I gotta start a third droid with all CS:R parts, apparently the most accurately made parts so far. CAD files are going up as I type. I did suggest converting them into .pdf files for those of us who have no interest in CAD. We'll see how it all goes.

A third droid?
Let's get AL going first! AL build day!!
Luckily the changes are very small, so I'm not going to worry about this new spec. Pretty cool for new builds though.

Re: New CS:R specs on astromech.net
Cal, there will be some standard (legacy) parts that will not fit the CS:R frame and skins (listed on the astromech post). The height and diameter of the body is slightly higher and larger, and some of the openings in the skin for things like octagon ports are different. It looks like the standard domes will fit, though. Will the public notice? Probably not, and probably not worth switching over to the new stuff right away, but for new builders it gives them another option for a more accurate droid (and another fun droid to build in the future for some of us old timers).
Devin, I have Sat May 17th off with no real plans that day (no trooping), so I could come up with AL's dome electronics and see what we can do with that if you're game.
